Extreme lack of access to basic pet resources is a national crisis and unfortunately most folks don’t even know about it! The worldwide organization Humane World for Animals has a program called Keeping Pets for Life. Their goal is to close the huge service gaps for people and pets in low income and underserved areas.
Initially, I found out about this program while leafing through a local free monthly, the Shepherd Express. The Hero of the Month article was about a local Milwaukee man, Demonte Moore who had been awarded a grant through the Wisconsin Humane Society.
“People treat their pets like family,” Moore reckons. “I treat all my dogs like they’re my babies, and people around here do the same thing. I’m basically a bridge for people,” Moore explains. “I go around the neighborhood and talk to people and let them know that there’s resources to help them out with their pets.” Demonte Moore
I was thrilled to discover this program because it truly transforms lives. Pets have an incredible impact on people’s well-being, and it’s heartbreaking when illness, poverty, or other challenges prevent someone from properly caring for their beloved animal. This program offers vital support to ensure pets receive the care they deserve.
